Lightning Protection
Our designed and installed direct strike lightning protection system (LPS) that complies with AS1768 ensures the best protection for your structure, your contents and your people.
Earthing
Earthing systems play a vital role in protecting assets, networks and personnel. Our designs, installs and certifies earthing systems for a complete range of lightning protection, HV electrical and static control applications.
Surge Protection
Our experienced personnel can help you choose the most effective solution, with SPDs to suit your environment, the location within a structure and the sensitivity of the equipment to be protected.
Testing & Certification
All Lightning Protection Systems and Static Earthing systems must be fully inspected and tested by competent personnel using calibrated test equipment. Lightning Protection Testing and Earthing Grid Testing must be done when the installation is completed and on a regular basis thereafter.
Testing and Certification must occur every 2 years in accordance with current standards.
SAFEGUARD AGAINST LIGHTNING
Lightning protection systems are the modern development of the innovation pioneered by Benjamin Franklin: the lightning rod. Many people believe that lightning rods attract lightning.
In fact, a lightning protection system directs harmful electrical currents away from a structure and safely to ground. We install a wide range of products to divert the strike away from your buildings and the equipment your buildings may store or contain.
Lightning protection acts as a safeguard, designed to protect a structure by intercepting extremely high currents of strikes and passing them safely from the structure to the ground, via a network of air terminals, conductors and ground electrodes. There are many signs that requirements for lightning protection are on the rise.

– Inspection of all conductors, joints and parts of the system
– Continuity testing across conductors and the total system
– Earth resistance testing on individual electrodes and the complete system
– Soil resistivity testing and analysis for new earthing systems
– Detailed reports on the condition of the system under test or inspection, with recommendations plus costings on the works required.
PREVENT SURGE OVERLOAD
A surge is a transient electrical fluctuation that can cause serious damage to electronic and electro mechanical equipment. SOLECTRO ELECTRICAL SERVICES provides a wide range of Surge Protection Products (SPDs) to combat this threat. Following investigation, we recommend different types of surge protection devices.
Type 1 surge protection devices are used in conjunction with a lightning protection system. To insure further protection against the failure of sensitive equipment, Type 1 SPDs may be required to be used and co-ordinated with one or more Type 2 devices which are usually installed in distribution boards.
Type 3 devices are installed as a supplement to Type 2. These have a low discharge capacity and are installed specifically to protect sensitive equipment. To obtain the maximum protection from a SPD, connecting conductors are kept as short as possible.
