Earthing and static control

Earthing system design, testing and certification

Earthing systems play a vital role in protecting assets, networks and personnel. We design, install and certify earthing systems for the full range of lightning protection, HV electrical and static control applications.

What earthing testing involves

Lightning protection testing and earthing grid testing must be carried out when the installation is completed and on a regular basis thereafter, by competent personnel using calibrated test equipment. Our complete service includes:

  • Inspection of all conductors, joints and parts of the system
  • Continuity testing across conductors and the total system
  • Earth resistance testing on individual electrodes and the complete system
  • Soil resistivity testing and analysis for new earthing systems
  • Detailed reports on the condition of the system under test or inspection
  • Recommendations plus costings on any works required

Why earth resistance changes over time

Earth resistance is not a fixed property of a building. Soil moisture, ground works, landscaping, new services, corrosion at joints and the gradual loss of electrode contact all move the reading. A system that certified comfortably five years ago can fail today with no visible change at roof level, which is why periodic measured testing — not visual inspection alone — is what AS/NZS 1768 requires.

Book your building's LPS test and certification

Fixed price $990 inc GST per building. We meet you on site, inspect and test the system, and issue your certificate.

Earthing FAQs

What is involved in lightning protection system testing?

Our trained personnel inspect all air terminals, conductors, joints and bonds, carry out continuity testing across the conductors and the total system, measure earth resistance on individual electrodes and the complete system, carry out soil resistivity testing and analysis where new earthing is involved, and issue a detailed condition report with recommendations and costings.

Do you test earthing systems as well?

Yes. Earth resistance testing on individual electrodes and the complete earthing system is part of the LPS test, and we also test standalone earthing grids and static earthing systems for industrial and plant applications.
